Upper Orchid Field Given a Cut

Visitors to the Upper Orchid Field will see that it is looking quite different as John Crockford has given it a cut. Many thanks, John! These cuts are essential to keep Brambles and other invasive vegetation from taking over and eclipsing the wildflowers.

We have started creating a small bog garden in the Elizabethan Orchard by burying an old fibreglass pond and refilling it with soil and cut vegetation. The fibreglass will retain some moisture and create better conditions for damp-loving wildflowers such as Purple Loosestrife and Ragged Robin. Following a suggestion from a Green Flag judge we have erected directional signs at Goldsland Farm to the 4 wildlife sites in the area; the Watercress Beds, Orchard, Bee Loud Glade and Cae Ysbyty (the hospital field).

The Group have arranged a showing of the film People’s Emergency Briefing on Climate Change at the Community Centre on Friday November 6th at 7pm. All are welcome and the event is free. This will also be an opportunity to hear about the proposed transfer of land ownership to the Community Council of the fields in and around the Upper Orchid Field.

A Date for your 2027 Diary
