A Very Busy Start To October
A Very Busy Start To October
We have had a very busy start to October.
Our October 1st meeting was in two parts. At the start of the meeting, we welcomed Charlotte Archibald from Vale Domestic Abuse Service (VALEDAS) which is our chosen local charity for the year. She improved our understanding of what Domestic Abuse means and how the team, based in Barry, help to support women and children who are affected. The numbers they have supported in the Vale over the past year were much higher that we had anticipated.
The charity links well with one of the WI’s Campaigns – No More Violence Against Women which launched in 2019 and we are focussing our efforts to support VALEDAS in the run up to Christmas.
From our ideas we are running a Name the Welsh Doll competition, which was launched at the Wenvoe Community Day on 3rd October. There are 100 names to choose from, and the winner will be announced after our Carol Service on December 11th. We will also be collecting toiletries, which are always needed, and will also deliver these in December.
The second part of the evening was a Bring a Bottle workshop, where members decorated an empty wine bottle which had LED stopper lights in. The range of designs was amazing, and a fun time was had by all.
On October 7th a small group got together in the Community Centre. Thanks to the sewing ladies for allowing us to share their space and for their help and advice on how to put together a bench back cover using some of the knitted and crocheted poppies that had been accumulated since May. It will be placed near the cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday. We still have a few poppies left which will be used to create another display.
Our November 5th meeting is a Sparkling Supper, prepared by the Committee and on December 3rd we will be having our Bring and Share Christmas Party.
Visitors are always welcome to our meetings, which are held in the Church Hall at 7.00pm on the first Thursday of the month. Please ring 07881853032 for further details.
