Great Turnout At Cosmeston

LIVING WITH CANCERSTROLLERS

A great turnout for the walk at Cosmeston. The grey skies didn’t dampen the enthusiasm for strolling leisurely around the lakes. And thanks to Sandra who was celebrating her 80th birthday, for the birthday treats. A walk around a lake or two, is a great way to celebrate!!

Back After the Summer

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

Back After the Summer

On September 1st Wenvoe WI met for the first time in this year’s programme.

Our president welcomed everyone back after the Summer and then we had a Fish and Chip supper – courtesy of The Fryer’s Club fish and chip shop in Ely. The food was not only delivered to the Church Hall but was hot and scrumptious. This was followed by 2 quizzes – a general knowledge one and a cryptic clue quiz about retail therapy.

Over twenty members were present, and we extend a warm welcome to anyone who would like to join our WI. We meet on the first Thursday of each month in Wenvoe Church Hall.

Janet Young (President)

Wenvoe Tennis Courts To Be Refurbished

WENVOE TENNIS COURTS TO BE REFURBISED

I can confirm that funds have been secured, via Tennis Wales, to resurface the Tennis Courts at the Recreation Field in Wenvoe.

A pay gate will be installed that requires booking via the Tennis Wales app. Free provision at the site will be offered at certain times such as during the peak summer months when free open days will be scheduled to promote the site and allow residents to join in organised activity or free play. Tennis Wales is also developing a free offer which will be used at sites to engage with local groups.

Tennis Wales will also be implementing programmes for the local schools to support the curriculum and wider school outcomes. Our programme brings together inclusive PE lesson plans, personal development resources, teacher training and much more. It’s all been designed by teachers, for teachers, and it’s all free. Tennis Wales offer schools who complete our free online primary or secondary teacher training course a £250 reward voucher. The voucher can be spent on tennis equipment or 10 hours of team teaching with an LTA Accredited Coach.

Pricing Policy

Tennis Wales has developed a low-cost pricing policy which supports them to protect and prepare tennis courts for the future. As a not for profit organisation, any funds generated from the site are reinvested into the annual maintenance, future resurfacing costs and local community engagement.

We have 3 options designed for families, students and casual users:

  • Family Pass – £39.00 (per year)

Any household family member can book & play for 12 months, with as much tennis as they wish to play included.

  • Student Pass – £19.00 (per year)

Any student can book & play for 12 months, with as much tennis as they wish to play included.

  • Pay & Play – £4.50 per court, per hour

Simply book online, pay for the hour and give tennis a try.

The refurbished courts will also provide an opportunity, with Tennis Wales assistance, to re-establish a Tennis Club in Wenvoe.

A Warm Sunny Autumn Morning

VILLAGE ENVIRONMENT GROUP

A Warm Sunny Autumn Morning

A warm sunny Autumn morning saw the team tackle the rose beds on the village green, while Ieuan with his trusty trimmer cut the hedge at the memorial. We were pleased to welcome Juha from Finland (in the foreground) who was staying with Gareth sing song. There were 2 absentees. Big John was having some photos taken for Vogue or so he says! Jonathan meanwhile is watching a light display in Norway.

Our next meeting will be back at the village green on Monday 10th October at 9.30am.

Welcomed 3 New Walkers Today

The Stress Buster Strollers

Stress Buster strollers welcomed 3 new walkers today. The group enjoyed a lovely stroll under glorious blue skies alongside a sparkling sea. How did we manage to lose 3 walkers in the Parade gardens? They were too busy talking to notice we had turned back! We did reunite…so no need for a search party!

Update From Your Vale Of Glamorgan Councillor

UPDATE FROM YOUR VALE OF GLAMORGAN COUNCILOR

RUSSELL GODFREY

It’s been a busy time since my last update

Below are brief overviews of some of the issues I have been dealing with. If you require more information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

  1. Litter in the Wenvoe Ward – At my request I recently had a meeting with senior members of the Street Cleaning Team. The outcome of this was:

a The Council has offered to provide pickers and bags for companies on the local retail parks, for their staff to litter pick in the area. These bags will then be collected by the VOG street cleaning team.

b As part of a local trial, a sign will be put on the waste bin outside the Village Shop, confirming it is an offence for anyone to deposit filled carrier bags in the bin. If caught they will be fined.

  1. I have also organised another successful litter pick in the community.
  2. Walston Road has now been resurfaced.
  3. It has now been confirmed that the tennis courts at Station Road are to be upgraded by Tennis Wales, which will include new playing surfaces, a lockable gate being added which will allow you to book online to use the courts for a small fee. You will then be given a code to access the courts. (All monies raised will be reinvested in local tennis by Tennis Wales).
  4. It is also planned to erect exercise equipment at the Station Road Playing Fields.
  5. It is also planned to plant a range of shrubs and flowers along the bank of the Grange.
  6. I was also recently invited to a tour of Dyffryn Gardens, which was a really amazing experience. The amount of ongoing work being done to the house and gardens, to return Dyffryn to its original state, is incredible. If you have not visited for a while, you will be amazed at how much of the gardens have already been restored, including an amazing natural play area for all. I would strongly recommend a visit.

I am sure you will agree many positive developments for the Wenvoe Community.

If you have any issues/suggestions please do not hesitate to contact me or pop along to one of my monthly surgeries. Tel:07927 588924 or email
