Since our last report in What’s On there have been delays, mainly due to the holiday period, which have resulted in our timetable slipping. We now expect to take over provision of the library service in mid-July.
Volunteers are continuing to be at the library alongside the member of the Vale Council library staff. If you are using the library please remember that it is still wholly a Vale Council service and it will not become a full Community Library until all the legal formalities are completed.
FRIENDS OF WENVOE COMMUNITY LIBRARY
APPEAL FOR BOOKS
By the time you read this article the village library may have been transferred to the newly formed Wenvoe Community Library. Despite being given a start up lump sum by the Vale of Glamorgan Council the new library management will still need to raise funds to cover ongoing running costs.
Accordingly we have formed “The Friends of Wenvoe Library” for this purpose. Our initial activity is to run a second hand book sale several times a year. Our first day will be:
Saturday 3rd September 2016 from 10am to 1pm in the small room at the Community Centre.
Anyone who buys a book will become a friend of the library and will receive a free cup of tea/coffee and a biscuit. There is no entrance fee.
We need your support in two ways,
1. Please come and see if you can find a book you want
2. Whilst we have a small stock of books, we need more books.
If you have any books of any sort which you don’t want please let us know and we will collect them at your convenience.
WE NEED AS MANY BOOKS AS WE CAN COLLECT.
If you have collected any books for us but forgotten to call us, please bring along any donated books on the day.
Thank you for your support

WENVOE COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Users of the Library will be aware that our volunteers are now attending the Library alongside the Vale librarian for most of its opening times. This is to maintain their skills following training a couple of months ago and familiarise themselves with procedures and you, the borrowers. The opening hours remain as always, though the Vale have been unable to provide staff on at at least one occasion so the library has been open slightly less than normal. As a reminder these times are:
Wednesday 1000-1200 and 1500-1700
We still need more volunteers, particularly for Saturday mornings. To make the Saturday shift more attractive for volunteers we are going to make it two two-hour slots (9-11 and 11-1), If you are interested talk to the librarian and complete and application form.
At the time of writing there still isn't an agreed date for the Handover. This is also the case in the other libraries similarly affected in the Vale but things are moving, albeit slowly.
Please support the Book Sale on 3rd September in the Community Centre!

Home Borrowers – If you are unable to come to the library and would like our Home Borrower volunteer to visit you, please telephone the library to arrange a convenient time for her to call.
Library Strategy Consultation – The Vale of Glamorgan is seeking to introduce a community run library in Wenvoe. In order to understand the views of the community, there are consultation forms available online and at the library for members of the public to complete. The consultation process will run from now until the end of December.
