CARERS WALK
What are some of the strollers on the carers walk looking at? The grey sky, turning black, then blue and white? The biggest sandcastle ever built on Barry Island? The swimmers splashing about in the calm sea? The patterns created in the sand by the tractor as it cleans the beach every morning?
You will have to join us on our next walk to find out…..a clue, four legs are involved!
CARERS WALK
21 walkers joined the Carers walk at Barry Island today, including 2 new strollers to Valeways. Sunshine, fabulous views, chatting to fellow walkers and chocolates from Kath, who was celebrating her 78th birthday, encouraged the walkers to reach the ice creams on offer at the completion of the walk
CARERS WALK
With International Friendship Day designated by the UN as 30th July, it was wonderful to celebrate it with the Carers walk around Barry Island. Everyone needs friends, including Carers, and it was lovely to see everyone mingling, chatting and just enjoying themselves. Did the walkers find time to admire the pristine Whitmore beach, the Burnet moths or the cliffs at Jacksons Bay….maybe not, but being with, and enjoying the company of friends is part of the joy of this walk
GIANT HOGWEED WARNING
Just a reminder to walkers, especially now it seems summer has finally come, to be wary of Giant Hogweed when you are out in the country especially if you have your children with you. The picture below shows a young girl who suffered 2nd degree burns after coming into contact with Giant Hogweed
MAKE CARING VISIBLE
As Carers week approached, 6 to 12 June, the walkers on the Carers stroll gathered at Barry Island. The theme of this year’s Carers week was to, “make caring visible, valued and supported.” This walk aimed to support the many unpaid Carers in Wales today who find themselves in a caring role. Before we set off, a lady enquired what we were doing. After the walk was explained she said she had just dropped off her husband at the dementia support centre and would love to be part of the next walk. Respite, relaxation and time for yourself is essential for all Carers. This is a supportive group who laugh, chat, and chat some more, whilst enjoying wonderful sea views, in rain, sun, and wind..join us!
CARERS WALK
A chill wind helped to blow the strollers on the carers walk along the beach at Barry Island. It was great to welcome Alan back to the group as he has missed the last few walks with his caring responsibilities. There was a lot of chat, quite rightly, as it is a walk ‘n’ talk group. Join us – there will always be someone to chat with!!
CARERS WALK
The carers had a jolly jaunt between Friars and Nells points along the beach at Barry Island. Snow could be seen on the Exmoor hills, across the Channel, but the strollers were fortunate to walk under glorious blue skies in bright sunshine. Hopefully one missing carer can rejoin the group when his wife recovers from surgery.
CARERS WALK
The hailstones thundered down as the time drew near to start the carers walk and it seemed to be in jeopardy…would any strollers turn up in this weather? Of course, they did! Everyone gathered in their waterproofs, but fortunately the clouds parted, the sun shone, the wind dropped and the strollers had a dry and enjoyable walk around Friar’s Point and along the beach to Nell’s Point.
One carer who was having a difficult time had to miss the walk, but hopefully will be able to return for the next walk. Carers are kind, compassionate, thoughtful people who put others first….and sometimes their responsibilities can seem overwhelming. This walking group is full of good natured, considerate folk who can provide support and a listening ear. Join us!
