Council business has mainly been conducted during the lock-down by individual contact. This month councillors have held two Zoom meetings of members and are hoping to return to ‘normal’ Council meetings in September.

Planning applications

  • 55, Burdons Close. Single storey extension to the rear of dwelling. No objection.
  • 71, Walston Road, Wenvoe. Proposed first floor Dormer extension. No objection.
  • Wenvoe Quarry, Alps Quarry Road, Wenvoe. Variation of Condition 1 – Relating to period of consent of recycling facility. No objection to extending the present licence.
  • Land west of television transmitter/south of Grants Field, Wenvoe. Detached L shaped stable block for the private use of the applicant, on a concrete base and with concrete hard standing. Recommended that a non commercial operation restriction be imposed due to its size and difficult access.
  • Whitehall Farm, St. Lythans Road, St. Lythans. Reinstatement of openings on side elevation and rear gable end changed to flat roof with two new windows at first floor level. No objections.

The following applications have been approved.

Northcliffe Rise, St Lythans Road, Duffryn First floor extension and garage conversion to existing dwelling. New single storey detached garage and two storey with basement detached workshop/storage. Also including alterations to existing entrance and landscaping existing garden.

  • 10, St Andrews Road, Wenvoe – Proposed Internal remodelling to include alterations to form a Master bedroom with en-suite bathroom within the existing attic, plus roof alterations to include a rear dormer

The Community Council again did not meet in April, as the virus lockdown was still in effect, and will not meet again until the lockdown is lifted. We are waiting for Welsh Government guidelines with regards to the annual general meeting and the annual report. However, the clerk to the council may be contacted via phone or email at the usual office times.

  1. Wenvoe Quarry, Alps Quarry Road, Wenvoe – Variation of Condition 3 and 12 of 1994/00010/OBS. Essentially it is continue to extract stone by extending the quarry in depth but within the existing boundaries.
  2. 6, Clos Llanfair, Wenvoe – Proposed single storey extension for sitting room to rear of property
  3. Valegate Retail Park, Culverhouse Cross, Cardiff – 6 Flexface signs above 4 unit entrances within Valegate Retail Park
  4. 43, Gwern Close, St. Lythans – Conversion of existing integrated garage into bedroom

Planning Updates. The following applications have been approved:

  • 34, Goldsland Walk. Conversion of existing integral single garage into a living space

• Wrinstone House, Station Road East. Single storey rear extension at lower ground level to provide accommodation for a live-in carer to support the applicants’ disabled daughter

Planning updates for March

The following applications have received approval.

  • 5, Old Port Road, Wenvoe. Pre-fabricated cabin to be sited in the rear garden.
  • Dyffryn Gardens. A small extension to the recently completed compost bays
  • 73, Picca Close. Infill porch to front of dwelling set below existing roof overhang
  • Former ITV Studios, Culverhouse Cross. Construction of drainage ditch

 

The proposed level of charges for hall hire, allotments and cemetery fees for the forthcoming year were agreed

New proposed library building. The Council are still waiting for the Welsh government to approve our grant, almost four years after the money was first applied for. Our Assembly minister Jane Hutt has been asked to intervene to see if things can be progressed.

Playgrounds. The Twyn-yr-Odyn playground is now complete. Easy access for disabled persons is being investigated. Grange playing field redevelopment is progressing. The Redrow play area now has completed paths but still requires landscape work.

The VE Day celebrations public meeting was reasonably attended not withstanding the inclement weather, being St Valentine’s day etc. The project will be carried forward by interested parties. The Council has agreed to make limited funds available to cover agreed expenses.

A near accident was reported to have occurred on the steps from Tarrws Close due to the streetlight being obstructed by fencing. The matter will be pursued with the Vale. Indiscriminate parking in Old Market was reported on.

The Council has employed a specialist company to examine the safety of gravestones in the cemetery. A number of defects were recorded in their report. Owners of the listed plots will be contacted to have the faults rectified.

Discussion on the future of the Whitehall quarry and access road area are continuing.

Possible future use of a small area of unattended land in Dyffryn were discussed.

Wenvoe Village Hall, Work to tree covered by TPO no. 4 of 1973 – Removal of Cypress tree facing Old Port Road – The council objected to the application on the grounds that there was insufficient justification to fell a protected tree.

Brooklands Drive Retail Park, Culverhouse Cross, Cardiff. One single digital screen and one unit of three digital screens. Concern raised about any possible distraction to road users.
