OPENING HOURS

We are now open Monday, Tuesday and Wednes-day 10 am – 4 pm and Saturday 9 am – 1 pm.

September Events in the Library/Hub

As well as our regular weekly activities, we also have several special and monthly events taking place at the Hub. Whether you enjoy gardening, reading, good company, or simply a relaxed afternoon out, we would be delighted to welcome you.

Tuesday 1st, 1:30pm – Gardening Group

Our friendly monthly gardening group meets on the first Tuesday of each month. Share tips, ideas, successes, and seasonal inspiration with fellow gardening enthusiasts.

Tuesday 15th 1:30pm – Readers’ Circle

Held on the third Tuesday of each month, our Readers’ Circle is perfect for anyone who enjoys books and conversation. No set book—just bring along something you’ve read recently and share recommendations with others.

Friday 18th at 7:00pm – Talks at the Hub.

Wednesday 23rd, 3:00pm – Cuppa with a Coppa

Join us for an informal chat over tea and coffee with our local PCSOs. A relaxed opportunity to discuss community matters, ask questions, and keep up to date with local news and advice.

Summer Fun at the Hub

The Hub has been full of colour, creativity and laughter this summer. We held two free children’s craft activity days, both of which were extremely successful and attracted an enthusiastic group of young visitors. The children enjoyed getting creative, trying new activities and proudly taking their finished crafts home with them. It was wonderful to see the Hub buzzing with so much energy and to welcome families from across the village.

On 21 August, the Hub also hosted a very special Tiger Who Came to Tea-themed tea party for children aged four to eight. Inspired by Judith Kerr’s much-loved story, the afternoon included tiger-themed games, crafts and activities, together with a delicious party tea. There was plenty of fun, imagination and, of course, a little tiger mischief along the way.

These events would not have been possible without the volunteers who gave their time to plan the activities, prepare the food and decorations, and help everything run smoothly. Our thanks go to everyone who contributed and to all the children, parents and carers who joined us and made the events such a success.

Following such a positive response, we hope to arrange more children’s activities at the Hub in the future.

 

A New Season of Talks at the Hub

Our popular Talks at the Hub programme returns in September for another season of interesting and entertaining evenings. The talks cover a wide variety of subjects, with previous speakers sharing fascinating stories and expertise on local history, literature, science, health, heritage, nature and many other topics. They offer an enjoyable opportunity to discover something new, meet friends and enjoy a sociable evening in the welcoming surroundings of Wenvoe Community Library Hub.

Talks are held at 7:00pm on Friday evenings and full details of each event – including the speaker, subject, date and ticket arrangements – will be advertised at the Hub and on our Facebook page.

Tony Hodges will open the season with his presentation, Two Entrepreneurs Who Made Penarth Their Home. His talk will explore the lives and achievements of John Kyte Collett (1836–1933) and his nephew, Frederick Speed – two enterprising figures whose work contributed to the development and history of Penarth. The evening promises to offer a fascinating glimpse into the people, enterprise and ambitions that helped shape our neighbouring town.

Our talks are always popular, so early booking is recommended. We look forward to welcoming familiar faces and new visitors when the new season begins in September.

Keep Cool at Wenvoe Library Hub

With another spell of hot weather, Wenvoe Library Hub is offering a welcoming Cool Space where you can take a break from the heat.

During our normal opening hours, you are welcome to:

  • Enjoy a cool drink of water
  • Rest in a shaded, air-conditioned space
  • Sit, read, chat or simply cool down

Everyone is welcome.

Staying safe in hot weather

  • Check on vulnerable neighbours, older relatives and young children.
  • Avoid strenuous activity and direct sunlight during the hottest part of the afternoon.
  • Keep curtains and blinds closed during the day to reduce heat inside your home.
  • Drink water regularly, even if you do not feel thirsty.
