Books on Prescription for Dementia
– There are 25 titles on the Reading Well Books on Prescription for Dementia to help relatives and carers and those living without a formal diagnosis. GPs and other health professionals can recommend a book from the list, which you can order online from the Vale catalogue and collect them from Wenvoe Library.

Home Delivery Service –
Are you finding it difficult to visit the library because of age, disability or illness? Let us bring the library to you. Free delivery and collection of large print, ordinary print and talking books can be made to your home. Please contact us and a volunteer will be in touch to assess your needs.

What’s Happening in May
National Walking Month – We receive brochures from several local walking groups; why not call in and choose a suitable walk for you and your family this month?
Local and Community History Month – Increase your awareness of local history by borrowing one of our many local and community history books.
6th May – International Dawn Chorus Day – The story goes that International Dawn Chorus Day began in the 1980s when broadcaster Chris Baines asked everyone to attend his birthday party at 4am so they could enjoy the dawn chorus with him. If you intend to have your own dawn party, the library on-line catalogue has a large collection of books and CDs to help you recognise birds and their calls.
12th May Saturday – National Limerick Day COMPETITION – Celebrate the day with us by entering our Limerick competition. A bottle of Prosecco is awarded for the most humorous and creative Limerick. See the noticeboard in the library for more details.
19th May Saturday – Books and Bake. Saturday 10:30- 12:30. Join us at the Community Centre for refreshments and the sale of pre-loved books, DVDs and delicious home baked cakes.
21st May – Monday – After School Lego. Join us for a fun hour with Lego 3:30-4:30
Weekly Events
Tuesdays – Our Family History Sessions are gaining in popularity. There is no need to book drop in between 10:30 and 12:30. Fee £2 a session.
Wednesdays – We have received excellent feedback from the FREE support sessions providing help with using mobile phones, laptops and tablets. Sessions need to be booked in advance so call in or ring us to find out more.
Wednesdays Knit ‘n’ Natter 2-4pm. – If you enjoy knitting/crocheting and good conversation, then contact Janet Williams jjwilliams23@hotmail.com

Out of the Madhouse by Iain Maitland – a family story told with humour and frankness through the author’s diary entries and his own reflections.

Books and Bake Sale
Longer Opening Hours and More to Do
Additional Opening Hours – We are delighted to announce that as from April 9th we are extending our opening hours. The library will then be open from 3- 6pm on Mondays. This should make the library more accessible for children to call in after school and to those who want to visit us outside working hours.
New Book Club – Page Turners has been running with its maximum of 10 members for seven years. Building on this success we have registered a second book club. If you would like to join please contact Isobel Davies: davies.isobel @yahoo.co.uk

We’ll be displaying a wide selection of gardening books to encourage your springtime horticultural activities.

Tuesday Family History Sessions – Have you always wanted to trace your roots and learn more about your ancestors? We are holding weekly drop-in sessions for beginning and more experienced genealogical researchers.
On-line genealogical sources via Ancestry and FindmyPast are freely available for in-library use. The library also has free Wi-Fi so you are encouraged to bring your laptops/tablets. Tuesday mornings from10:30-12:30. There is no need to book. Fee £2 a session.
Wednesdays Digital Champions – Did you know that one out of five people in the Vale of Glamorgan are not confident in using the Internet? That’s why the Vale is offering a range of FREE 1-to-1 support sessions to help you get you started, increase your confidence, or build on your existing skills in using your mobile phones, laptops and tablets. Sessions need to be booked in advance so why not call in or ring us to reserve your place?

New Library Volunteers
We are delighted to report that we have had an excellent response to our call for library Volunteers. We have recruited six villagers who have embarked on their training programme and we welcome them all to our team. This gives us further opportunities to develop our library service and we will keep everyone closely informed.
We are having an Easter Raffle again (see separate notice); we do hope you will support it as you have earlier raffles. There are a number of prizes to be won. We do need to raise money whenever and however we can to keep our library going.
