We Have Enough Volunteers

ADVENT WINDOWS 2022

We Have Enough Volunteers!

The great news is that we have enough volunteers to go ahead with the Wenvoe Advent Windows! We have some regular volunteers who have readily joined us again with plans already for this year. It is very encouraging that we have new people who are joining us for the first time. We have lost some and our thanks go to Sandra and Brian Jones, who have moved out of the village, who not only provided windows but also helped in the planning and organising. They will of course be coming to view what we achieve this year.

We start on 1st December at 29 Venwood Close at 5pm, where Mike and Glynis Tucker will host us. On the same evening the telephone box will again have a story decorating the windows with special interest for those young in heart. You will need a torch for this as there is no electric supply there. We will conclude on 24th December at St. Mary’s Church with an input from Gwenfo School.

There will be a map of the village with information about all the windows in next month’s Wenvoe What’s On, with pointers where maps can be obtained elsewhere in the village.

Many thanks to all those who have volunteered. For any other information contact Jude Billingham 07516112897

Tucker’s Christmas Reindeer Sale

It’s almost here! Come along to the 4th annual Tucker’s Christmas Reindeer sale on Saturday 19 November from 10am to 4pm at 29 Vennwood Close (the road opposite the church). Apart from the stars of the show there will be some lovely things to buy and a festive atmosphere to get you in the Christmas mood. We are being joined by some local crafters on the day including Trevor and his lovely Christmas houses, Linda and her sewn crafts, Llinos will be taking orders for Christmas wreaths and small Christmas trees sold in aid of Velindre and 2 card sellers. Heulwen will be raising money from her cards for the Library hub and Esther will be raising money to replace her mother’s memorial bench which was situated on the village green until a storm destroyed it last winter. There will be Tucker family crafts and some really cosy crocheted blankets sold by Justine.

We will be holding the usual raffle with some excellent quality prizes including luxury food hampers, a home baked and decorated Christmas cake, some very interesting bottles and some items that would make ideal gifts for adults and children. Once again, profits from this and from the sale of some crafts will be donated to our charity of choice, the Wenvoe Wildlife Group. Rumours have been circulating that there might be a visit from a gent on a sleigh in a red and white suit and these may very well be true and may offer an excellent photograph opportunity. There will, again, be home made cake sold by the slice and all craft tables will be under the cover of Christmas decorated gazebos and festive music will provide the backing track to the whole event. Why not join us and pick up a reindeer and some Christmas spirit! These have become collectors items so start making a list of people who deserve one as a gift. Bring a friend and have a festive catch up. We are so looking forward to seeing you there.

We Need More Volunteers!

ADVENT WINDOWS 2022

We need more volunteers!

We are planning Wenvoe Advent Windows 2022 following the success of the last two years. Since September’s What’s On we have been pleased to receive a number of requests to take part. However, we need more volunteers to fill the 24 slots of December.

There will be a new window to see each night leading up to Christmas Eve when of course there will be all 24 on display. The final window will be at St. Mary’s Church.

There is no entry fee, it’s not a competition, and, adults and children can be involved. Participants will be allocated a date when they will light up their window for the first time and continue lighting up each day until 24th December. The windows can be designed and constructed from any media; and will need to be lit from 5.00pm to 9.00pm each evening. All the displays should relate to Advent / Christmas and can be humorous, artistic or topical.

If you would like to participate you need to live in a house that has a window (upstairs or down) that can clearly be seen from the street and you will need to keep the window illuminated each evening after it is ‘opened’ until December 24th.

For more information contact Jude Billingham: on 07516 112897 or judebillingham@ yahoo.co.uk

We would be delighted to hear from you.

Advent Windows 2022

We are inviting you to take part in lighting up your windows this Advent 2022 following the last two successful years.

The Advent Windows 2022 will encourage us all to wrap up warm and get out to view the windows throughout December. There will be a new window to see each night leading up to Christmas Eve when of course there will be all 24 on display.

This community fun event will run from the 1st-24th December, with the final window at St. Mary’s Church. We would like you to take part; there is no entry fee, it’s not a competition and adults and children can be involved.

How it works: – We need a minimum of 24 participants to decorate their windows. Participants will be allocated a date when they will light up their window for the first time and continue lighting up each day until 24th December. For those of us viewing the windows this will mean every day from 1st December a new window will be lit up to go and see so that by 24th December there will be 24 windows to view.

The windows can be designed and constructed from any media including lights, mobiles, cut outs etc. They can be as simple or technical as your artistic tendencies take you. They can be internal or external displays as long as they involve decorating your window. All the displays should relate to Advent / Christmas and can be humorous, artistic or topical. During previous years there was a great variety in size, contents, both humorous and stately, some with a modern portrayal and others of traditional designs.

The windows will be lit from 5 – 9pm each evening.

Each house participating will be asked to

– display a number corresponding to the date their window is ‘opened’ to differentiate it from other residents who will have their own Christmas decorations.

– keep their window a surprise as far as is possible before the designated revealing evening

If you want to participate you need to:

 live in a house that has a window (upstairs or down) that can clearly be seen from the street without people coming onto your property

 be happy to keep the window illuminated each evening after it is ‘revealed’ until December 24th

We are aware that many people give their time and money to support a host of different charities. If you would like to put a charity box outside your house you would be most welcome. Just make sure you empty the box each evening.

For more information ring: Glenys and Mike Tucker: 07922 109721 or Jude and Nige Billingham: on 02920594708 or 07516 112897.

Please let Jude Billingham know by October 16th that you want to decorate your window by supplying your name, address, email address, telephone number, and any preference you have about dates by email (judebillingham@yahoo.co.uk) by telephone, or text.

Please be aware that in agreeing to participate you are also agreeing to have your address identified on the windows map that will be made available so people can look for your window. No names or email will be shared without your permission

This is a St. Mary’s initiative for the whole community

Wenvoe Village Show

At last, we can welcome you to the return of Wenvoe’s Annual Village Show. Gardeners, bakers, photographers, and craft makers of the village are all busy preparing for the event. Run by the Hub, there are several categories to enter: crafts, cookery, art, photography, floral art, home-grown produce, and categories for children. Most of us will have something worthy of exhibit so why not give it a go?

The Community Centre will be open for entries between 08:30 and 10:30 on the morning of the show. You may submit as many entries in as many categories as you wish, with each entry costing £1. On completion of entries, the Community Centre will be cleared for judging.

The doors will be open to the public from 12 noon. The raffle will be drawn at 1p.m. followed by the announcement of the category winners at around 1.30pm.

We believe there is a competitor in all of us but if you would prefer to just view the exhibits, sample the products over a cuppa, or splash out on scones and cream, everyone is welcome. Come along and catch up with friends and expect an enjoyable afternoon.

Run by volunteers for you to enjoy. Organisation takes time, and effort. We need to spread the load more widely: the more people who are involved, the less there is for any one person to do. If you can spare a few hours on the day we would love to hear from you.

For further details, categories, and entry guidelines please call into the Hub or contact us at wenvoelibrary@outlook.com.
