VILLAGE HALL GRAND DRAW
Our Grand Christmas Draw is one of our most successful events and as a result it will be taking place once again this year at 7pm on Tuesday 11 December 2018 at the Hall.
Last year we gave out 45 prizes, ranging from £200, numerous cash prizes and vouchers for local stores, bottles of spirits and wine, boxes of chocolates and biscuits etc. Can we increase this number again this year? Tickets available from numerous outlets around the village.

GEMS GIRL’S CLUB
GEMS GIRL’S CLUB
In April, this year, Vale Village Church launched Gems – a club just for girls in year 6 to year 11. It’s a place where girls can develop strong friendships, encouraging and supporting one another in a relaxed fun environment. Through a range of activities, crafts and discussion we aim to inspire a positive identity based on Christian values.
Over the last 6 months some of our highlights were: a firepit in the summer, when we made bread and roasted marshmallows; we learned about love languages– the way that we best receive and show love to other people ( 5 Love Languages for Teenagers – Gary Chapman); how to be on the alert against bullying; making friendship bracelets and, recently, shining sparklers on a chilly, dark night – thank goodness for hot drinking chocolate!
Gem’s is run by volunteers from Vale Village Church. Our hope is that the girls will feel valued, confident in who they are and want to make an impact in their community. The response has been fantastic and numbers are growing as the girls continue to invite their friends. We’d love you to join us, so, if you’re a girl between years 6 and 11 come and join in the fun!
Gem’s takes places on the first Friday of every month, 6.30pm- 8.00pm at Wenvoe Village Hall, CF5 6AG. Follow us on Facebook – Gems Girls Club and Instagram gems. valevillage

MIDNIGHT MASS
MIDNIGHT MASS
Christmas Eve Service at St Mary’s Church Wenvoe
This will be my fifth Christmas as Priest in Charge at the Parish of Wenvoe. During this time we have always celebrated the First Communion of Christmas (commonly known as Midnight Mass) with a service starting at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve. This will definitely continue to be the case this year in 2018. However, several people have mentioned to me that this service is too late for them to attend. I thought it would be interesting therefore to conduct a Straw Poll to see if people would prefer this service to be at 9.30pm in future years. A copy of the voting form is shown. If you usually attend this service, or if you would like to attend this service in the future, then you may wish to pick up a voting paper from St Mary’s Church, Wenvoe during the services on 23rd, 24th and 25th December and to return them by 30th December to the boxes provided in Church. We will then look at the results to see what would be the best timing of this service in future years.

With thanks and blessings for Christmas
Jon – Priest in Charge
STRETCH AND RELAX
STRETCH AND RELAX
We often forget to look after ourselves which can lead to us feeling burnt out and frustrated, and finding it difficult to manage the challenges of everyday life. Many people feel stressed, suffer from sore joints and muscles and don’t get enough sleep. Stretch and relax classes can help.
Hi, my name is Julia and I am bringing my own brand of “Stretch and Relax” classes to the Wenvoe Community Centre. I am a new resident of Wenvoe with over 20 years experience teaching In Hong Kong, the Philippines and Canada. These classes are fun and friendly and will suit all fitness levels. There is no need to book, just come along!! Classes are on Wednesdays 10:00am – 11:30am and start December 5th.
Stretch:- Regular stretching can help increase your flexibility, which is crucial for your overall health, help you to perform everyday activities with relative ease, and it can also help delay the reduced mobility that can come with aging. Being able to move a joint through its full range of motion gives you more freedom of movement.
Chronic pain often arises in places where tension is held, such as in the shoulders and lower back. When we feel tense we often clench our muscles without realizing it so taking time to stretch the muscles can release the tension and increase blood flow, relieving the knots in the muscles. Stretching also promotes circulation of blood to the brain which can lift your mood as well.
In my classes, we start with gentle warm ups and flow through a sequence of stretches to soft music.
Relax:- Many people have told me that the guided relaxation at the end of my classes is their favourite part. Practising relaxation and breathing techniques can produce significant benefits to your life and stress levels, helping you cope with difficult situations. Learning to relax and let go, for example with progressive muscle relaxation, develops an increased sense of well-being and many people have told me that the first benefit they found after my classes is that they sleep better. Guided visualisations can increase self-esteem and help with goal setting and develop a positive attitude to life.
I am a qualified yoga teacher with experience in many yoga techniques (Ashtanga, Hatha, Rudra, Sivananda, Yoga Nidra) have a degree in Social Sciences, and have studied various meditation techniques, Neuro-Linguistic programming as well as Self-hypnosis. I am very enthusiastic about what I teach. I combine what I have learned in these various disciplines to produce a class that I believe can really make a difference. I hope people will walk away feeling positive, recharged and refreshed each time.
I hope to see you at my classes! They are suitable for any fitness level, and no experience is required. Bring an exercise or yoga mat and some water to drink.
