Hearts are clergymen, spades are soldiers, diamonds are merchants and clubs are peasants.<\/p>\n<p>In 1685, French soldiers on duty in Canada were paid their wages in playing cards because coins were in such short supply!<\/p>\n<p>The four kings, queens and jacks may look the same but there are small differences.
