How It All Began is a book of consequences. Charlotte in her late 70s is mugged and suffers a broken hip. The story describes the knock-on effects of this event. Charlotte’s daughter Rose works as Sir Henry’s secretary but has to attend to her mother. Sir Henry calls his niece Marion to cover Rose. Marion sends a text to her lover Jeremy to cancel their tryst. Jeremy’s wife reads the text, and so the story unfolds.
