Tombland by C J Sansom<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

This is the seventh novel in the series
\nfeaturing the lawyer, Matthew
\nShardlake. Set in the summer of 1584, Tombland
\nweaves a murder mystery around the Kett uprising in
\nEast Anglia.
\nJohn Boleyn is accused of murdering his wife Edith so
\nthe Lady Elizabeth (Queen to be) takes an interest in
\nthe case leading to extra complications.
\nFor most of us it was a thoroughly enjoyable read, the
\ndescriptions made you feel that you were actually in
\nthe camp with the peasants when they were preparing
\nfor their rebellion. The solving of the murder took
\nmany twists and turns, and the characters really came
\nalive. The author is a master of Tudor historical
\nfiction.
\nSome felt this was one of his weaker plots and it was a
\nreal tome to get through \u2013 800 pages. There was no
\nwandering in to a second book this month! A few
\nhistorical inaccuracies were noted, including one
\nregarding the emblem of Wales. However, these were
\nforgiven in a jolly good read. Highly recommended
\nand we gave it a score of 9.
\nTombland has in fact been No I in the Sunday Times
\nBest Sellers list recently.
\nTess rewarded us with some delicious cakes,
\nespecially the Welsh Cakes (actually made by Alan)<\/p>\n
