Set in the summer of 1584, Tombland<br \/>\nweaves a murder mystery around the Kett uprising in<br \/>\nEast Anglia.<br \/>\nJohn Boleyn is accused of murdering his wife Edith so<br \/>\nthe Lady Elizabeth (Queen to be) takes an interest in<br \/>\nthe case leading to extra complications.<br \/>\nFor most of us it was a thoroughly enjoyable read, the<br \/>\ndescriptions made you feel that you were actually in<br \/>\nthe camp with the peasants when they were preparing<br \/>\nfor their rebellion. The solving of the murder took<br \/>\nmany twists and turns, and the characters really came<br \/>\nalive. The author is a master of Tudor historical<br \/>\nfiction.<br \/>\nSome felt this was one of his weaker plots and it was a<br \/>\nreal tome to get through \u2013 800 pages. There was no<br \/>\nwandering in to a second book this month! A few<br \/>\nhistorical inaccuracies were noted, including one<br \/>\nregarding the emblem of Wales. However, these were<br \/>\nforgiven in a jolly good read. Highly recommended<br \/>\nand we gave it a score of 9.<br \/>\nTombland has in fact been No I in the Sunday Times<br \/>\nBest Sellers list recently.<br \/>\nTess rewarded us with some delicious cakes,<br \/>\nespecially the Welsh Cakes (actually made by Alan)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tombland by C J Sansom This is the seventh novel in the series featuring the lawyer, Matthew Shardlake.
