\n\t\"\"N<\/span><\/span>o blackbird looks to bully the thrush<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tA<\/span><\/span>nd no swifts shrill above the town,<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tN<\/span><\/span>o kestrels hover over the motorways;<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tN<\/span><\/span>o cheeky sparrows fly up when a car goes by<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tA<\/span><\/span>nd no skylarks sing above the barren meadows.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tT<\/span><\/span>he martins abandoned their nest under the eaves years ago<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tE<\/span><\/span>arly predictions have come true:<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t'<\/span><\/span>S<\/span><\/span>ilent Spring' is here;<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tT<\/span><\/span>here is 'No Room for Wildlife'<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tW<\/span><\/span>hat do we have instead?<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tT<\/span><\/span>he roar and unhealthy smell of the motorways,<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tG<\/span><\/span>reen fields, quiet lanes and woods <\/span><\/span><\/span>turned into <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tF<\/span><\/span>ly-tips, housing estates, business <\/span><\/span><\/span>parks <\/span><\/span><\/span>and<\/span><\/span><\/span> recreation grounds.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tT<\/span><\/span>rees and plants stressed or dying <\/span><\/span><\/span>in summer heat and drought.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tC<\/span><\/span>ollectors begging us to 'Save the Children'<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tFor what? A world destroyed by their elders?<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tS<\/span><\/span>oon, we too will be gone, 'Gone with the Wind' –<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tU<\/span><\/span>nless …?<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
