The Hub was filled with lovely people who came to enjoy scones, strawberries and cream, while relaxing with a glass of Prosecco or soft drink.

More than anything, the afternoon was about bringing people together. The room was alive with laughter, conversation and the happy buzz of friends catching up and new friendships being made. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying each other’s company in such a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The event was a great success, thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, and it perfectly demonstrated what the Hub is all about—not just books, but creating opportunities for people to meet, socialise and feel part of the community. We hope to make afternoons like this a regular feature of our events programme.

Celebrations

In September 2026, Wenvoe Community Library Hub will celebrate ten years as a community-managed library. Reaching a decade of continuous operation is a significant achievement for any volunteer-led organisation and reflects the dedication of our volunteers, supporters and the wider community.

To mark this important anniversary, the Library Hub will join with the Wenvoe Community Council’s Community Engagement Event on Saturday 3rd October. The celebration will provide an opportunity to reflect on ten years of achievement, recognise the many people who have contributed to the library’s success, and look ahead to the next chapter in its development.

Do you remember the old library?

Before it became our modern Community Library Hub, the library was housed in what many will remember as the old school classroom. Criminals now impersonate banks, delivery companies, government departments, utility providers and even family members, often creating a false sense of urgency to persuade people to act before they have time to think.

His advice was simple: Stop. Think. Check. Never feel pressured into clicking a link, scanning a QR code, transferring money or sharing personal information.

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and verify the request using a telephone number or website you have found independently—not one provided in the message.

Owen highlighted several free services that everyone should know about:

Report Fraud is the national reporting service for fraud and cybercrime in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Even if you have not lost money, reporting suspicious emails, websites, phone calls and messages helps build intelligence that can prevent others becoming victims. If you have lost money or believe you have been targeted, report it as soon as possible

Have I Been Pwned? ( http://www.haveibeenpwned.com) is a trusted website that allows you to check whether your email address has appeared in a known data breach. If your details have been compromised, the site explains which breach they appeared in and enables you to take action, such as changing passwords and enabling two-factor authentication.

7726 (which spells SPAM on a mobile phone keypad) is a free reporting service supported by all the major UK mobile networks. If you receive a suspicious text message, simply forward it to 7726. If you receive a scam call, you can text 7726 with the word CALL, followed by the telephone number. These reports help mobile providers identify and block scam messages and numbers before they reach more people.

One final piece of advice is worth remembering: never be embarrassed if you think you’ve been caught out. Criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and scams are designed to deceive intelligent, careful people. If in doubt, ask a friend, family member or someone you trust before taking any action.

A few minutes spent checking could save a great deal of worry, inconvenience and financial loss.

The next Cuppa with a Coppa meeting Wednesday is August 5th at 3pm
Regular Groups and Activities at the Hub

Everyone is welcome to turn up.

Monday

10:30 am – 1:00 pm: Clwb Clonc (Welsh Conversation)

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Stitches (Crafting Group)

Tuesday

11:00 am – 12:00 pm: French Conversation

First Tuesday of the month: Grow & Grub (Gardening Group)

Second and Fourth Tuesdays: Italian Conversation

Third Tuesday of the month: Readers’ Circle

Wednesday

9:30 am – 11:00 am: Babies & Toddlers

1:30 pm – 3:00 pm: Golden Girls

WENVOE COMMUNITY HUB Tel: 02920 594176 – during opening hours or wenvoelibrary@outlook.com Like and follow us on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/WenvoeCommunityLibrary For general enquiries you can email us at wenvoelibrary@outlook.com Report from the Hub August 2026 OPENING HOURS We are now open Monday, Tuesday and Wednes-day 10 am – 4 pm and Saturday 9 am – 1 pm.
