{"id":11953,"date":"2022-07-09T11:30:50","date_gmt":"2022-07-09T10:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wenvoe.org.uk\/?p=11953"},"modified":"2022-07-09T11:31:38","modified_gmt":"2022-07-09T10:31:38","slug":"thank-you-maam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wenvoe.org.uk\/?p=11953","title":{"rendered":"Platinum Jubilee Thank Yous"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"5\" \/>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; color: #008000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\"><strong>THANK YOU MA\u2019AM!<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>On the 2nd June 1953 Princess Elizabeth was crowned Queen Elizabeth II amid all the pomp and ceremony that we Brits are known for.<\/p>\n<p>Roll forward seventy years and the country celebrated her Platinum Jubilee. Events and street parties were planned up and down the country and Wenvoe was no exception.<\/p>\n<p>The Beacon was lit in Twyn yr Odyn on Thursday 2nd June and the event was well attended. This was also the first time for many people to see the commemorative Toposcope in situ at the site of the Quarrymen\u2019s stone. The Toposcope was designed by <span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Ian Moody<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span> and thanks are extended to him for his time and design.<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks to <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Dickon Oliver<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span> who led the walk up from the village and <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Jonathan Bird<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span> for organising and lighting the Beacon.<\/p>\n<p>An outdoor service was held in the church grounds on Friday with picnics and games galore. Many thanks to the Church Committee for organising.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday saw Wenvoe\u2019s answer to Bake Off \u2013 we had seventy entries in the Cake and biscuit competition between the children&#8217;s and the adults\u2019 categories.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Sian Jones<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0and <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Anne Leslie<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0registered each entry and made sure that all of the names were kept secret &#8211; well done Ladies!<\/p>\n<p>The standard was very high and a big thank you to the judges <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Candice Shibani<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0and <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Sandra Jones<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>. What a task they had in choosing the winners and runners up! Thank you to <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Kelly Stevenson<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0for organising the competition prizes<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition in the hall on Wenvoe Past was a great success. We were so pleased that so many people shared their memories and mementoes of past Jubilees and general Wenvoe and Twyn yr Odyn history for everyone to enjoy. The cakes and biscuits from the competition were enjoyed by all along with a cup of tea and a natter!<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition was the culmination of many hours of collating photos, clothes, toys which were then displayed on tables and on the boards in the hall. Huge thanks to <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Glenys and Mike Tucker<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>, as not only did they collect all of exhibition material, but they also decorated the hall and indeed the village in the runup to the Jubilee weekend. They also had the mammoth task of making sure that everything was returned to its rightful owners.<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks to <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">George Burke<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0for his input with the flyers and his enthusiasm in making sure that as many people as possible knew about the planned events.<\/p>\n<p>Another big thank you to <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Abby Gaughan,<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Hazel Crockford<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Annette Patterson<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">George Burke<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>, and his granddaughter <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Esther<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>, for helping us with setting up the exhibition in the Hall and for helping to clear up afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly but by no means least the \u2018tea\u2019 ladies <span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #008000;\">Heulwen Davies<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Carol Wyllie<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0for making sure that the refreshments flowed freely \u2013 nattering is thirsty work!<\/p>\n<p>I would also like to extend our gratitude to Wenvoe Community Council for funding the street and hall decorations, the Commemorative flag, the prizes and the tea and coffee in the hall<\/p>\n<p>Finally, on behalf of myself, <span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Rhian Sexton<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0, and the Jubilee Committee we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the events and we hope that you enjoyed them as much as we did!<\/p>\n<p>For everything!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<hr noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"5\" \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THANK YOU MA\u2019AM!
