It is an amazing childhood, and she clearly evokes that life for the reader. I think we can all agree that we liked the book and it initiated lots of discussion especially around the author\u2019s mother and father. They seemed a strong, resilient, and tenacious couple who strived to make a life in often dire circumstances. The impact on the lives of their children, both positive and negative comes out eloquently through her well written prose throughout the book.
