Facebook Update

Facebook page is working well with 20 people “Following” it. There are now book reviews as well as news of events and activities. One activity which has gone well is the Lego drop-in sessions on a Saturday morning. Children have, under supervision, created some amazing shapes and characters and enjoyed their library time, some even taking a book home at the end of the morning.

If all this talk of Facebook and smartphones seems alien then try one of our Digital drop in sessions. Details are available in the library.

We have started "Storytime" in two forms. Firstly we have opened especially for the primary school to bring pupils across to enjoy a story read by Sandra Dicks in the library; the hope is that this will continue on a regular basis over the coming years, it keeps the children engaged with reading outside the school environment. Secondly, over the summer months we have held storytelling picnics on the grass outside the library. It's not been the best weather this year but next year could be fantastic!

Spaces are available on a Tuesday morning for our Ancestry sessions, just drop in on a Tuesday or enquire next time you are passing. You don't have to be a library member to take part but will have to sign up if you wish to use your own laptop or tablet.

The new Library Management System is in place and, after a troublesome installation is working well. The on-line catalogue is broadly the same to help readers choose books at home and order them for collection as well as making renewals from home.

If you bought tourist guides over the summer then remember for next year that you could have borrowed Rough guides, Lonely Planet etc from the library. If you did buy one and don't foresee using it again yourself the why not donate it?

We are planning to sell Christmas Cards this year! From the end of September we should have competitively priced cards available in the library in packs of ten. More details next month, but it will be a special way of saying "Merry Christmas from Wenvoe"

Welcome to all new residents. If you want to join the library come down with some ID, fill out the forms and we'll have you up and running as a borrower on the day. (The library is located behind the Community Centre, the opening times can be found on page 2).
